Kiri Te Kanawa: I Could Have Danced All Night
Kiri Te Kanawa’s radiant, creamy soprano and graceful presence assured her of a special place in the hearts of operatic audiences, while her down-to-earth personality and appreciation of popular music helped her reach an unusually wide public around the world. Today, through the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation, she supports the careers of exceptional young singers from her native New Zealand.
This film portrait features in-depth interviews with Dame Kiri and shows her working on the music of Strauss, in Vienna with Sir Georg Solti – one of her closest mentors – and at London’s Royal Opera House with Jeffrey Tate.
The fascinating documentary is complemented by concerts recorded in London and New Zealand, with arias by Handel, Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and Cilea and a selection of popular numbers, including ‘I Could Have Danced All Night’ from My Fair Lady.
