In 2013 Diana Damrau and Joseph Calleja joined forces at the Philharmonie am Gasteig to record Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, a performance which could be considered one of the greatest interpretations of the opera of our time. This sublime performance of Damrau ‘s Lucia is on the level of some of the greatest prima donnas who have lived. After the famous "mad scene" which in this version was accompanied by a glass harmonica, an extremely rare and difficult instrument to play, the press and public went into a frenzy.

Donizetti’s violent drama about love, jealously, and insanity plays out among a political drama. That this opera can also have such success in a concert version was experienced this night in July with the Munich Opera Orchestra and Diana Damrau who had an enormous success in the title role.

Diana Damrau’s interpretation of Lucia di Lammermoor has been one of the highlights of her career. In this performance with a stellar cast, she is accompanied by the Munich Opera Orchestra under the baton of the late Jesus López Cobos, renowned Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja who is also one of the greatest Edgardos of our time. Baritone Ludovic Tézier is Lord Enrico Ashton.
